1. Clean the drain pump filter. The pump filter is the most common cause of E1 on older LG Washers. It is located behind the small access panel at the bottom front of the machine. Place towels on the floor, open the panel, and slowly unscrew the filter cap to drain water. Remove the filter and clear out any lint, coins, buttons, or debris clogging the filter mesh. Rinse it under running water and reinsert it firmly.
2. Check the drain hose for kinks or blockages. The drain hose at the back of the machine should have a smooth run to the standpipe or sink drain. Check its full length for kinks, tight bends, or blockages. The end of the drain hose in the standpipe should not be pushed in more than 15 cm — too deep an insertion creates a siphon that prevents proper draining.
3. Reset the washer. Press Power to turn the machine off. Unplug for 5 minutes, then plug back in and restart the cycle. If the pump filter is cleared and the hose is not blocked, the E1 error should not return and the machine will drain normally.
